Blur: Reflection Blur |
|
| OVERVIEW |
| Take a walk around town with your camera and treat yourself to the reflection blur. These distorted, wavy blurs are found in reflections of windows, in curved metal bumpers, or on the sides of shiny skyscrapers. Some reflections will be slightly distorted. Others will be so blurry they will look almost abstract. Photograph all of them to create a fascinating collection of this very special blur effect. |
| CREATIVE HINTS |
| After you've located a suitable reflecting surface, observe the reflections from different angles and distances. Avoid getting too much detail in the picture. An overabundance of blurry distorted detail confuses the composition. And watch for glare that can obliterate the reflections--shift slightly to one side or the other to help reduce glare. If you're shooting reflections in a storefront window, wait until passers-by move into just the right position to make the best composition. This requires patience. Finally, don't be afraid to include yourself in the picture, as I did here. It adds to the visual effect! ©Yale Joel |
